R.A. Reyes of Philosophy presents paper on St. Thomas Aquinas in the Netherlands

Associate Professor Reynaldo A. Reyes of the Department of Philosophy of the Faculty of Arts and Letters, delivered a lecture in theInternational Academic Conference at the Thomas Instituut te Utrecht (Tilburg University) in  Netherlands, held from December 18 to 19, 2015. Reyes read his paper “Aquinas on the Metaphysical  Assumptions of Infused and Acquired Virtues” on the occasion of the institution’s 25th foundation anniversary. This philosophical discourse was anchored on the conference’s general theme: The Virtuous Life: Thomas Aquinas on the Theological Nature of Moral Virtues.
The theme of this international congress was conceived during the 2013 International Conference on Faith, Hope, and Love: Thomas Aquinas on Living by the Infused Virtues. The convenors of this gathering believed that Aquinas’ Summa Theologiae has continued to inspire theologians and ethicists yet, these teachings remain perplexing to the scholars because St. Thomas did not specify to what extent the Christian faith determines human moral life. Reyes’ paper was chosen to elucidate some of the contentious issues which root from the teachings of the Summa Theologiae.
The Tilburg University also sought the commitment of Assoc. Prof. Reyes to have his paper be featured in the series publications of the Thomas Instituut te Utrecht, Louvain: Peeters Publishers, Volume XVI.
