Accountancy, Artlets faculty members benchmark on accounting education in Malaysia

From October 19 to 21, 2015, the National Association of Certified Public Accountants in Education (NACPAE) convened for the 24th Accounting Teachers’ Conference and 2nd Mid-Year Convention in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Accounting teachers from different colleges and universities in the Philippines, including UST’s Alfredo M. Velayo – College of Accountancy and Faculty of Arts and Letters, attended the forum to get updates on current trends and issues concerning accounting instruction and practice.
The theme “Sharing Success Beyond Borders” aptly captured the essence of the academic exchange that transpired between Philippine delegates and Malaysian counterparts. During the benchmarking sessions with University of Kuala Lumpur, University of Malaya, and UNITAR International University, the host schools presented their program offerings in accounting and business while the Filipino representatives presented research about factors affecting the performance of accounting graduates in the CPA Board Examinations and in employment.
The delegation from UST-Alfredo M. Velayo College of Accountancy was led by Dean Patricia M. Empleo, Conference Chair and NACPAE Vice President—External Affairs Mr. Antonio J. Dayag, Accountancy Program Chair Ms. Christine C. Sta. Maria, and Former Management Accounting Chair Mr. Earl Jimson R. Garcia. Assistant Professor Pia Patricia P. Tenedero of the Faculty of Arts and Letters also attended the forum as the paper presenter in UNITAR on October 20.
