Castro, AB Comm. Arts student, wins gold medal in Global Extemporaneous Speech Face-Off in Ho Chi Minh

AB 20150625-28 CA - Castro Wins Gold in VietnamMr. Jan Dominic Castro, the President of the Faculty of Arts and Letters Student Council, won the gold medal in the Global Extemporaneous Speech Face-Off held in the 1 st Dux Gregis: International Youth Leaders Convergence held on June 25 to 28, 2015 at Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Castro bested competing delegates coming from different universities from various countries across Asia, including Kenya, Indonesia, Bangladesh, and Thailand.   
All of the candidates were given three minutes to prepare the answer to the question, " What for you is the world's most pressing issue, and how do you plan to address such as a youth leader of the 21 st  century?   In his response, Castro explicated that the " root cause of common societal problems"  is attributed to thecorruption of values, lack of education, illegal immigration, poverty, environmental deterioration, and government incompetence. As a student leader, Castro stressed the need to utilize resources and energy. He espoused the "utilization of social media platforms, campaigns, and other creative and influential means of communication in conveying the message of awareness" since this is really the youth's field of expertise. In the conclusion of his speech impromptu, he emphasized that in order to eradicate apathy, the youth leaders should "go beyond borders" , attend conferences and assemblies, speak their minds and voice out their concerns in order to fully encourage everyone to be responsible citizens of his / her country.
