The University of Santo Tomas received the prestigious School of the Year Award for the third time since 2013 in the Philippine Quill Awards, and also bagged 19 Awards of Merit and Awards of Excellence in the student division last May 17, 2016 at the Marriott Grand Ballroom , Pasay City, Manila.
The University beat Angelicum College, Bataan Peninsula State University, Colegio de San Juan de Letran, and the De La Salle College of Saint Benilde for the School of the Year award.
The following are the Awards of Merit for the following entries: the Varsitarian editorial "Aquino's Last SONA: Unpresidential, Philistine, Bitter," the varsitarian Papal Visit microsite, the documentary "MANEUVER: The New Dawn", and "UST Tiger Radio Summer Airing ".
The University also received 15 Awards of Excellence, including the Varsitarian's "16th Inkblots: UST National Campus Journalism Fellowship," "Botomasino 2015: A Special Coverage of the UST Student Council Elections," "The Botomasino Special Supplement," "Papal Visit Infographics ", and" Special Supplement for the Papal Visit. "
The tomasian Cable Television (TOMCAT) the received Awards of Excellence for its shows "Tomasiknow" and "Tombayan."
Included from the list were entries from the Journalism Seniors in Facult of Arts and Letters, "Age Does Not Matter," "Innovations for Agricultural Efficiency," "Kaabagan Marketing Plan," "NewsHub: Traffic Story," "NewsHub: UP Diliman Story "and" UST Election 2016. "
The Varsitarian received eight awards, including the trophy for excellence in publications; the student publication's two finalists for the Top Philippine Quill Award are namely: "Botomasino: A Special Coverage of the UST Student Council Elections" and "Papal Visit Infographics."
"My dream is to see a stage full of awardees from UST, and tonight we proved that," the UST Media Studies Department Chairman Joseph Arsenio Salandanan in his statement to the varsitarian.
For this year's event, 64 student awards were given to schools in Metro Manila, as well as Pampanga, Bataan, Rizal, Laguna, and Cavite. Colegio de San Juan de Letran's television documentary film entitled "Dimensions" was adjudged as the Philippine Quill Student Top Student Quill Award.
A student qualified for entry "Award of Merit" if it obtained a score of 4.75 to 5.25. Those with 5:26 to 7 were given the "Award of Excellence." The top five winners were automatically nominated for the Best Award.
The Philippine chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators, a global network of around 15,500 business communicators in 80 countries, organized the annual award made this possible.
