Layug of Fine Arts receives Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice award from Pope Francis

Mr. Wilfredo “Willy” Layug, a graduating Bachelor of Fine Arts student from the College of Fine Arts and Design, was awarded thePro Ecclesia et Pontifice Award in a solemn Eucharistic celebration at the Metropolitan Cathedral of San Fernando, Pampanga, last March 8, 2016. The Most Reverend Florentino G. Lavarias, D.D., Archbishop of San Fernando, presided over the Mass, while the President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, Most Reverend Socrates B. Villegas, O.P., D.D., awarded Layug.
Mr. Layug, who is set to graduate from CFAD with his son, Josef, at the end of this academic year, made a name for himself in the field of sculpture of mostly sacred images. His most recent work is the life-sized image of Our Lady of Hope, used during the Eucharistic celebration of Pope Francis in Tacloban City, Leyte, last January 17, 2015.
The Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice is an award of the Roman Catholic Church that is given by the Pope for distinguished service to the Church by lay people and clergy.
