Civil, Chem. and Mech. Eng’g. students participate in EDMAT-37 in Kuala Lumpur

The student branch of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE)-University of Santo Tomas recently became a part of the 37th Engineering Development, Motivation and Awareness Training, or the EDMAT-37, at the University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last January 23 to 27, 2016.
UST was the only university from the Philippines in the international convention. A combined 36 students from the Civil, Mechanical, and Chemical Engineering departments represented the organization, and they were accompanied by Engr. Don Maltu from the Mechanical Engineering department. Other participants in the EDMAT-37 are students taking up different engineering fields coming from Indonesia, Malaysia, Yemen, and Egypt.
The 5-day convention included talks from some of the biggest names in the Malaysian community in the fields of entrepreneurship, engineering, and finance, including Edmond Yap, founder of EduNation, and Shane Choo, Director of LifeChamp. There were also seminars on molding interpersonal and communication skills, workshops on improving presentation skills and innovation, as well as outdoor sports and group activities. The participants’ skills and creativity were tested through a Nobel session, where they had to create a rubber-powered disc car. On the last day of the convention, the delegates were divided into three groups for the industrial plant visits to Gardenia, Ajinomoto, and Royal Selangor Pewter. A gala dinner was held on the last night at the Dorsett Regency Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, where all of the participants performed different acts.
