UST hosts conference of Philippine engineering educators

The Philippine Association of Engineering Schools (PAES) held its two-day international conference, entitled International Conference on Engineering Education – Philippines, from October 22-23, 2015 (Thursday-Friday) at the UST Buenaventura Garcia Paredes, O.P. Building, with the theme “Facilitating Teaching and Learning Innovation in Engineering Education.” The conference was in conjunction with the association’s General Membership Meeting (GMM).
Delivering the keynote speech via webinar was Prof. Milo Koretski of Oregon State University. Koretsky talked about technology-based instruction and its effects on student learning. The webinar used the Blackboard Collaborate format, the first time that it was used in the University, which has always been upgrading its facilities to ensure the optimum use of technology-enhanced instruction. He was followed by Prof. Toby Canto of the Asian Institute of Management. Canto presented about the Case Method in Engineering.
During the second day, Dr. Ravindra Goonetilleke of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology presented the best practices in teaching and learning.
The rest of the conference was spent for parallel sessions, featuring the researches of engineering educators. An exhibit of the latest technology was also presented in the event.
The conference drew participants from all over the Philippines, as well as the United States of America, France, Singapore, China, Malaysia, and Hong Kong.
