Marquez of Planning, Industrial Eng’g. wins USAID award to visit UC Berkeley

Asst. Prof. Charlie A. Marquez, Director of the Office of Planning and Development and an Industrial Engineering faculty member,received Innovative Development through Entrepreneurship Acceleration (IDEA) Study Visit Grant to the Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology (CET) at the University of California – Berkeley given by the Philippine Development Foundation (PhilDev) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) with funding from USAID STRIDE.
The study visit will afford Marquez–one of the five Filipino engineering professors–the chance to benchmark and learn best practices, which will be integrated later on into the improvements in the University of Santo Tomas. He is one of the five recipients of the award from more than 60 initial qualifiers.  He is part of the first group to be awarded such Grant by USAID STRIDE, PhilDev and CHED.  Upon their return, among many other responsibilities, the scholars will develop a mandatory Technopreneurship Course for CHED, which will be taken by engineering students.  This will be offered in the new Engineering curriculum after the K-12 Transition period.
