Last August 20-24, 2015, the Harvard Project for Asian and International Relations (HPAIR) Asia Conference was held in the Makati Shangri-La Hotel. It was the first time in 21 years that the conference was held in the Philippines, and it provided a platform for students from top universities, business professionals, and political leaders to engage in rigorous academic discussions. Representing the University of Santo Tomas was Ms. Lavenia Alou Magno, a BS Chemical Engineering junior.
After hearing the plenary lectures of Ayala Corporation Chairman and CEO Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala, Budget Secretary Florencio Abad, and United States Ambassador to the Philippines Philip Goldberg, the delegates were categorized into their respective fields, with Magno being assigned to the Energy and Sustainability panel.
Magno joined delegates from other countries in working on a case study about the use, efficiency, and promulgation of the use of LED lights in Asia, and how the team can propose solutions to overcome the conflicts. Magno’s team won second place for their case study.
