Asst. Prof. Marica G. Estrada, PhD, RN, Assoc. Prof. Sally Uy, MBAH, OTR/L, OTRP, and Ms. Stephanie Ann Balid, MAPsych, ORTP, with other 25 researchers and investigators on health from Burma, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam, successfully passed and completed the 4-month master course offered and sponsored by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), U.S. National Academy of Sciences (NAS), and the National Cancer Institute (NCI). The course was offered at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Bangkok, Thailand, and targeted professional investigators from low- and middle-income countries in South East Asia.
This course was
designed to provide an introduction to the field of Implementation Science (IS), which investigates the process for bringing solutions from biomedical and healthcare research to broader public health practice and policy. The course started in June 2015 and was delivered through webinars, culminating with a three-day in-person workshop last September 15-17, 2015 at USAID Regional Development Mission in Asia (RDMA) in Bangkok, Thailand where USAID, NIH, and NAS staff facilitated the conceptualization of IS research proposals and discussed the overview of research grant-making processes and procedures, as well as other critical skills to a successful IS project. Together with them were Dr. Teresa Ortin, Dr. Warren Bacorro, Dr. Jason Co, Dr. Paolo Sagono, and Dr. Ryan Agas of USTH Benavides Cancer institute.
