Razo of Mech. Eng’g. goes to the University of Glasgow Singapore as graduate researcher

Engr. Christopher Isaac Razo of the Mechanical Engineering Department of the Faculty of Engineering, is hosted by the Convenor for Mechanical Design Engineering at the University of Glasgow Singapore (UGS), Asst. Prof. Christian Della, Ph. D., as a visiting researcher. The UGS Director of Research Programmes, Assoc. Prof. Cindy Goh, Ph. D., issued approval of Engr. Razo’s visit as graduate researcher under the supervision and care of Dr. Della.
Engr. Razo is working to complete his Master’s Thesis at the University of the Philippines – Diliman with Dr. Louis Angelo Danao. At the UGS, he is working on the “Parametric Study of the Composite Spar Lay-Ups for the Development of Bend-Twist Coupled Wind Turbine Blade Power Performance”, where Dr. Della serves as his adviser. Two weeks into their research work at UGS, Engr. Razo and Dr. Della’s first paper with Dr. Danao has been accepted in an international conference, and they have another one in the work for a second presentation.
To support his visit to UGS, Engr. Razo received scholarship grant from the Engineering-Alumni Endowment Fund. He is also a beneficiary of the UST Mechanical Engineering 75th Foundation Anniversary Fund, which was put in place with the help of the Mechanical Engineering alumni. He is currently on one-year Study Leave from the University of Santo Tomas.
The partnership between the Faculty of Engineering and UGS started with Dr. Della’s visit last May 2015, after discussion with Dean Philipina Marcelo, which was facilitated by Asst. Prof. Anna Cherylle Ramos, Director of the Educational Technology Center.  This was followed by a visit to UGS of the Faculty of Engineering officials in July 2015 to explore areas of collaboration.  The UGS and University of Glasgow delegation visited UST in August 2015 where plans for Engr. Razo’s visit to UGS was discussed.
