Over 500 aspiring chefs and 51 schools showcased their innovativeness, culinary skills, creativeness and mastery at the Ajinomoto Umami Culinary Challenge 2015.

Dubbed as the "Battle of the Umami Bowl," this annual competition was held at the SMX Convention Center Hall 2 last January 30, 2015. A total of 51 school teams composed of culinary students from all over National Capital Region and Luzon provinces tested each other's cooking bravery in the one-of-a-kind culinary challenge. The Luzon regional winners also battled with other regional winners from Visayas and Mindanao in a National Cooking Showdown.

The participants competed in different categories, with teams creating the best dish that maximizes the full potential and usage of the umami taste. The categories were Best Filipino Umami Dish, Eat Well, Live Well Plate, and My Own Umami Creation.

The Umami Bowl Award for Excellence, the highest award and most important award of the competition was given to the University of Santo Tomas for two consecutive years (2014 and 2015) for gathering the highest team score in the three categories.

  1. What about the B.S. Nutrion & Dietetics participants? I think they deserve a mention here as well since they were a part of the team.
