The Association of the Special Libraries of the Philippines (ASLP) in partnership with the Philippine National Police (PNP) Anti-Cybercrime Group and the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) organized a forum entitled Digital Forensics 101: Securing Electronic Files in Libraries and Information Centers last September 28, 2015 at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Malacañang Palace Complex, San Miguel, Manila.
Department of Budget Management Secretary Florencio Abad delivered the welcoming remarks.
SP01 Noel Cuestas of PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group was one of the speakers. He is a digital forensic examiner who gathers data/evidence from computers and digital media. He also discussed the process of investigating concerning identity theft, electronic fraud, and other types of scams.
Cuestas also cited National Statistics Office’s population data in 2014 that roughly 41 Million, out of 101,833,938, Filipinos were using internet.
According to the Message Viable Format Global Survey, the Philippines is considered to be the Short Message Service (SMS) Capital of the world wherein there were about 93.2 million subscribers.
