Senior BS Industrial Eng’g. students visit Malaysia

Fifth-year BS Industrial Engineering students accompanied by Asst. Prof. Delfin Jacob, PIE and Prof. Nancy Eleria, PhD, PIE, ASEAN Eng, visited Penang and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from February 14 to 19, 2016, as they participated in the annual field trip for graduating students.
This six-day tour included plant and company visits as well as university visits, through which students acquired experiences that taught them how principles learned from Quality Management, Work Study, Information Systems, Systems Engineering, Simulation, and Marketing can be applied in real the world businesses. The first three days were spent in Penang, Malaysia, where they visited Penang Hill via Funicular Train, Kek Lok Si Temple, Bronze Statue of the Goddess of Mercy, 7-Tier Pagoda of 10,000 Buddha, Fort Cornwallis, Kuan-Yin Temple, and Anglican Church as part of their city tour. They visited RC Precision Engineering Sdn. Bhd, which is a company that serves companies worldwide in Fabrication, Machine Assembly, Design Development and Sub-Contract Manufacturing. Another company that they visited was the Pentamaster Corporation which aids in manufacturing materials for automation.
In the remaining days in Kuala Lumpur, they visited the King’s Place, National Monument, National Museum, National Mosque, Dataran Medreka, and Bukit Merah Laketown Resort, where they took the chance to learn more about Malaysian culture. They visited Universiti Kuala Lumpur and Universiti Tenaga Nasional, where the participants were welcomed warmly as the Universities presented their programs for graduate school.  Siemens also welcomed them and presented their company profile and gave an overview about the technology that they are introducing in the market.
The students were also given the chance to discover and rove around the streets of Penang and Kuala Lumpur, where they were able to experience local transportation and indulge local street food. Delish Malaysian food was served to the participants all throughout their stay in Malaysia.
