Pagalilauan of Asian Studies presents paper on colonial legacy in Adelaide, South Australia

AB 20150705-09 Asian - Pagalilauan Presents Paper in Aus 01Asst. Prof. Abigail Pagalilauan, an Asian Studies faculty from the Faculty of Arts and Letters, presented her paper on the topic "Colonial Legacy" in the 9th International Convention of Asian Scholars (ICAS 9) , held from July 5-9, 2015, in Adelaide, South Australia. The convention's theme was: interculturality: An Encounter between hegemonic and Non-Dominant Culture. Contrary to the usual notion, the global assembly of Asian scholars took more than being an "Asianist" and being confined to the interests of countries in Asia. Rather, this international conference also became an avenue for the participating Asian Studies departments to forge linkages research, benchmarking, networking and academic.
Attended by more than 1,500 participants from 60 countries in the world, 9 ICAS became a worldwide forum for dialogues and discussions about frictions, interdependencies, and potentials for conflict between societies and mutual interference caused by interculturality. This convention was hosted by South Australia's three public universities: the University of Adelaide, Flinders University and the University of South Australia, in conjunction with the annual / biennial conferences of the Chinese Studies Association of Australia (CSAA), the South Asian Studies Association of Australia (sasaa), and the Malaysia and Singapore Society of Australia (MSSA).
