Four Commerce graduates honored in annual awards

The College of Commerce and Business Administration annually holds the Outstanding Alumni Awards in order to give recognition to its graduates who have shown exemplary performance in their chosen field.  This year’s ceremonies took place last February 2, 2016, to coincide with the 83rd Grand Alumni Homecoming organized by the College of Commerce Alumni Foundation, Inc., (COCAFI) scheduled last February 6, 2016. 

This year’s awardees are:
Mr. Orlando T. Diaz, BSC Accountancy 1965.  He is this year’s Awardee in the Field of Business Management. Mr. Diaz is known for his consultancy engagements during the 1970’s in Bangladesh, which started the modern accounting practices there.   He was the recipient of the SGV Sycip Award in 1981, having started as a Junior Auditor in the said firm in 1965 and became Partner of the Firm in 1982.  At present, he is the President of FJC Real Estate Builder and Marketer, Inc. 

Ms. Sonya Salaverria-Garcia, BSC major in Business Administration 1963.  She is this year’s awardee in the Field of Health and Wellness.  Ms. Garcia is the owner of Sonya’s Secret Garden in Alfonso, Cavite.  She has created employment in the area of Buck Estate since her staff, personnel, masseurs and masseuse for the Bed and Breakfast and the Spa are from the community.

Ms. Rosie Dy-Go, BSC major in Business and Management 1965.  She is this year’s awardee in the Field of Community Service.  The numerous accomplishments of Ms. Go include being the first Lady Rotary Governor in District 3810 for the RY 2002-2003 and the second Lady Rotary Governor of the whole Philippines.  There were many other civic and business organizations with which she has active participation and involvement, the latest of which is with the prestigious Zonta Club of Makati and Environs. 

Ms. Hilda Y. Ong, BSC Accountancy 1981. She is this year’s awardee in the Field of Media. Ms. Ong is the host of a radio program entitled “Health and Travel at Serbisyo Publiko” in DWBL 1242kHZ. In February and November of 2015, she received the “Natatanging Pilipina sa Larangan ng Pamamahayag” award during the Buwan ng Kababaihan and the Pinakamahusay na Lingkod Bayan, respectively, from the Gawad Sulo Foundation. The Gawad Sulo Foundation is an organization that gives recognition to individuals and associations who have shown dedication in their chosen fields of expertise in the service of our countrymen.

The event was held at the Medicine Auditorium, beginning with a Mass concelebrated by Commerce Regent Rev. Fr. Senen R. Ecleo, O.P. and Rev. Fr. Rolando V. de la Rosa, O.P.  This was immediately followed by the awarding rites. In attendance were the administrative and academic officials, faculty members, support staff and students of the College, as well as the officers and members of COCAFI, along with a number of Golden Jubilarians.
