CRS hosts seminar-workshop on hand therapy

The Occupational Therapy (OT) Department of the College of Rehabilitation Sciences hosted a seminar on “Wrist Mobilization and Flexor Tendon Management” last October 17, 2015, at the Human Occupational Science Laboratory, Medicine Bldg. The seminar was the first of a series of lectures and workshops centering on hand therapy as a specialized field of practice. It was attended by more than 50 participants, including some faculty members from the OT and Physical Therapy Departments.
The seminar provided an opportunity for clinicians to appreciate the basic roles and functions of a certified hand therapist, learn key assessment and treatment tenets of hand therapy rehabilitation, including selected manual mobilization techniques as well as design and fabrication of static hand splints. The speakers, Kathlyn Hunter, Teresa Bonife, and Celina Rallon, all certified hand therapists practicing in the United States for more than 15 years, came to share their expertise and impart best practices in the management of patients.
