Prof. Alfredo P. Co, PhD, former Chair of the Department of Philosophy, delivered a keynote address in the recently held conference in the Australian Catholic University. The conference, which bore the theme “Civil Society and Human Formation: Philosophy’s Role in a Renewed Understanding of the Meaning of Education,” was held from July 20-22, 2015.
Co’s keynote speech focused on “Confucian Secular Formation and Catholic Education: (Or the Spiritual Education of the Jun Zi.”
Leading the paper presenters Fr. Jesus M. Miranda, Jr., O.P., PhD, Regent of the College of Education and Editor of the Philippiniana Sacra. Fr. Miranda presented the paper “Living the Dominican Charism in Education in the Philippines: A Grounded Theory Approach.” He likewise presented the paper “Constructivism in the Nontraditional System of Education.”
Representing the faculty members of the Department of Philosophy were Jecko Bello, who talked on “Paul Ricoeur’s Paradigm of Translation: The Role of Philosophy and Education in the Secular Society,” and Milagros Arrevillaga, who talked about “Basic Ecclesial Communities (BEC) Involvement and Its Relation to the Spiritual Growth of a Selected Group of Filipino Urban Youth.”
