Chemistry professors, students sweep 31st PCC poster competition awards

Academician B. Fortunato Sevilla III, PhD, and Asst. Prof. Rodelle Alan M. Salcedo of the Department of Chemistry in the College of Science, won first place in the 31st Philippine Chemistry Congress Poster Competition, held from April 13-15, 2016 at the Iloilo Grand Hotel, Iloilo City.
 
Sevilla and Salcedo's research was entitled "Cuprous iodide immobilized on polymeric film as optical sensor for mercury vapor in the ambient air."
 
Meanwhile, Julius queano (BS Chemistry student) and his adviser, Prof. Carlos Garcia, PhD, won second place for their research entitled "Steel corrosion inhibitive properties of functionalized imidazoles and benzimidazoles."
 
Also, Arriane Constantino (BS Chemistry undergraduate) and her advisers Asst. Prof. Jolleen NewsLife and Assoc. Prof. Karen S. James, PhD, won third place for their research entitled "Potential biomedical materials based on bacterial cellulose composites."
