Castillo, PolSci students present papers on ASEAN integration and Philippine int’l. relations in Cambodia

Mr. Ronald M. Castillo, Political Science instructor from the Faculty of Arts and Letters, led a Political Science contingent composed mostly of students who attended the 9th Congress of the Asian Political and International Studies Association (APISA 9) at the Royal University Phnom Penh, Cambodia on September 11 to 12, 2015. As one of Asia’s leading academic organizations dealing with political and international studies, APISA aims to promote research and teaching in all areas of the social sciences, in particular disciplines related to this field.
Castillo joined a group of paper presenters who worked on discourses that adhere to the APISA Congress’ theme: Asia in 2015 and Beyond: New Challenges and Governance Agendas. His paper entitled “Republic City and ASEAN 2015: The Integration of Nations and their Political Cultures” formed part of the parallel session under the subtheme Economic Regionalism. Aside from working on his own research endeavors, Castillo also advised a number of AB Political students who were also paper presenters in the same APISA Congress. Ms. Ma. Aviegail Anne Semillano delivered her paper entitled “ASEAN 2015: Fostering Stability and Regional Cooperation in a Multipolar World”, while Mr.  Aaron Jed Rabena gave an insightful take on the “Trilateral Relations between the US, China, and the Philippines.”
Since its founding Congress in 2003, APISA has sought to promote theoretically informed comparative scholarships based on the Asian experience in the fields of conflict and peace, democracy and governance, development, and area studies.
