Three (3) faculty members from the Faculty of Arts and Letters – Department of English presented separate research papers in the 12th annual Cambodia TESOL conference, held from February 20-21, 2016 (Saturday-Sunday), at the Institute of Technology of Cambodia, Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Asst. Prof. Judith Ma. Angelica S. Claustro presented her paper entitled “University English and advertising agencies: Meeting needs, merging deeds,” co-authored with Assoc. Prof. Camilla J. Vizconde, PhD. Her paper noted the skills needed in advertising agencies and created a five-brand trademark to encapsulate the said skills.
Meanwhile, Philippe Jose S. Hernandez presented his study entitled “Matching expected English skills of engineering educators, practitioners, and language teachers.” The paper identified needed communication skills from industry perspectives and determined gaps in course offerings and materials.
Finally, Veronico N. Tarrayo’s paper was entitled “Exploring interactions in L2 blogging: Metadiscourse in Philippine investigative journalism blogs.” The data revealed that the investigative journalism blogs have a higher frequency of use of interactive resources, allowing writers to organize and structure their propositions so that the text becomes more coherent.
