Last February 5, 2016 (Friday), Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, Vice-Presidential candidate of the Partido ng Demokratikong Pilipino, represented his running mate, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, in the first of a series of election fora organized by Aktiboto, an inter-agency voter education movement. The said event was held at the Central Seminary Gymnasium, which housed students, faculty members, alumni, and the external public.
Cayetano presented his camp’s response to the Youth Vision for the New Philippines of 2021, and cited the passage of the Freedom of Information Bill, protection of journalists, better access to free tertiary education, more efficient coordination among government agencies for the use of the budget, and the eradication of crime and drugs, among others, as the hallmarks of their administration, if elected.
Prior to the presentation of Cayetano, Aktiboto Project Director Raymond John Naguit presented Aktiboto’s rationale and the vision, assisted by Mr. John Simon, Chair of the Committee on Advocacy of the UST Alumni Association, Inc. Also, Asst. Prof. Dennis Coronacion discussed the importance of the upcoming elections and how the voters, particularly the youth, can be informed voters.
