Lunar Ministry

An Excerpt from the Homily of Very Rev. Fr. Gerard Francisco P. Timoner III, OP
Solemnity of St. Dominic de Guzman
7 August 2014

In his Homily on the occasion of the celebration of the Solemnity of our Holy Father St. Dominic de Guzman, Very Rev. Fr. Gerard Francisco P. Timoner III, OP, UST Vice Chancellor and Prior Provincial of the Dominican Province of the Philippines, mentioned that God is the Sun and we are the moon, borrowing light from the Sun. The Fathers of the Church called it “lunar ministry” which means “to reflect the life of Christ as the moon reflects the light of the Sun. The brightness of the light as Christians depends largely on our relation with Christ.” He exhorted the Thomasians to be the “full moon” in their relationship to our Lord. “They immediately feel the joy and peace that comes from the radiating Christ. They say that the one who is in love glows and sparkles. A Thomasian who is in love with God and at peace with one self and others sparkles and glows.” Other Thomasians may resemble the “crescent moon phase, barely shining” in their faith in relation to Christ. However, a Thomasian who is “grumpy, grouchy, cranky and crabby” might be undergoing “an eclipse... a lunar eclipse!”
