2016 UST National Writers’ Workshop Fellows named

The University of Santo Tomas Center for Creative Writing and Literary Studies (UST CCWLS) will be holding its annual National Writers’ Workshop from July 24-30, 2016 at Ridgewood Residence Hotel in Baguio City.


The following are the writing fellows and their institutional affiliations:

Fiction in English: Maria Tanya P. Cruz (UST) and Francis Paolo M. Quina (UP Diliman)

Fiction in Filipino: Maria Nikka P. Policarpio (UST) and Eric John B. Villena (Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan)

Poetry in English: Paul M. Jerusalem (Yale-National University of Singapore) and Timothy F. Ong (Ateneo de Manila/UP Diliman)

Poetry in Filipino: Jasper Emmanuel Y. Arcalas (UST) and Vanessa Anne Joice T. Haro (Southern Luzon State University)

Creative Nonfiction in English: John Patrick I. Allanegui (Ateneo de Manila) and Jennie Arado (UP Mindanao)

Creative Nonfiction in Filipino: Giselle R. Dela Cruz (UST) and Rhea B. Gulin (Philippine Normal University) for creative nonfiction in Filipino.
The senior guest panelists of this year’s Workshop are UP University Professor Emeritus Gémino H. Abad, one of the most renowned poet-critics of the Philippines, and Philippine High School for the Arts Director V.E. Carmelo Nadera, Jr., who is a former editor-in-chief of the Varsitarian and the founder of its annual Gawad USTetika Literary Awards. Abad and Nadera have both served as Director of the UP Institute of Creative Writing (UP ICW). The participation of this year’s senior guest panelists has been made possible through the sponsorship of the Varsitarian.

Serving as Workshop Director is poet-critic Ralph Semino Galán, the Assistant Director of the UST CCWLS, while Workshop Coordinator is fictionist-playwright Chuckberry J. Pascual, one of the Resident Fellows of the UST CCWLS.

Aside from Abad, Nadera, Galán and Pascual, the rest of the teaching panel is composed of Cristina Pantoja Hidalgo, Director of the UST CCWLS, Augusto Antonio A. Aguila, Joyce Arriola, Ma. Ailil B. Alvarez, Mar Anthony Simon Dela Cruz, Joselito D. Delos Reyes, Dawn Laurente Marfil, Ned Parfan, Chuckberry J. Pascual, John Jack G. Wigley, and Joselito B. Zulueta, Resident Fellows of the UST CCWLS.
