Pharmacy, MedTech host Balik Scientists

The Faculty of Pharmacy’s Department of Pharmacy and Department of Medical Technology hosted their respective Balik Scientists this February 2016. Asst. Prof. Ruth Pineda-Cortel, PhD is instrumental in bringing two Balik Scientists to the Faculty. Both scientists helped facilitate different activities with the faculty members and also with the students of the faculty especially those who are currently doing their research.
The Department of Pharmacy was given the opportunity to hist Mr. Reginald Salonga from Japan. He is an alumnus of the University and his field of interest is Atopic Dermatitis.
Meanwhile, the Department of Medical Technology hosted Dr. Emilyn Uy Alejandro, an assistant professor from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Alejandro is an islet cell biologist whose study focuses on developmental beta cell programming.
The Balik Scientist program is a brain gain initiative of the government. Scientists or experts in science and  technology who are Filipino citizens or with Filipino descent are requested to come back to the Philippines to share their knowledge and expertise on their field of interest. Its aim is to improve research capacity of the host institution.
